Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour 3 days – itinerary:

1st day: Marrakech – Dades Gorges

Your desert trip from Marrakech to Merzouga starts with a departure in the morning from your riad towards Dades Gorges. You will travel across the high Atlas Mountains and over the famous Tizi-n-Tichka pass, the highest mountain peak in Africa.

All along the road, there will be stops at panoramic viewpoints. Here, you can take photos and admire the breathtaking views of the valleys and the mountains. The valleys are full of colourful roses, olive trees, and herds of goats.

After the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, a side road takes you to the former palatial residence, Kasbah Telouet. Here, you will visit the kasbah to discover Moroccan tiling artwork and wood craftsmanship.

Driving further south, you arrive at the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a backdrop for many Hollywood blockbusters including “Gladiator”, “Alexander”, and some scenes of the famous TV series “Game of Thrones”.

After lunch, you will visit the Kasbah with a local guide to learn about the interesting history of this site.

NEXT on your Marrakech Desert tours, you drive past Ouarzazate as far as the Skoura Oasis. Here, you stop to explore the fortified Kasbah Amredhil. It has been reconstructed to make a panoramic view situated on the side of the valley and standing tall among the palm trees.

From here, the road takes you through the Road of a Thousand Kasbah and then the Valley of the Roses. In Kel’aa M’gouna, you will pay a visit to the local cooperative producing cosmetic products from abundant flowers.

Afterwards, you will drive as far as the Dades Gorges. In the evening, a beautiful guest house at the edge of the valley offers dinner and overnight.

2nd day: Dades Gorges – Merzouga

After breakfast, go on a walk to explore the Boumalne Dades Valley’s garden and green fields. Shortly after, you will drive to the Toudgha Gorges where you will have lunch on the spot.

Then, you can go for a walk along the riverbank and through the massive canyons. If you desire, you can go for a short hike around the gorges with a local guide.

Afterwards, you continue your desert trip alongside the Ziz Valley. It is remarkable for the length of its unlimited palm trees and fortified kasbahs.

Here in Merzouga Desert, an hour to an hour and a half leads to the summit of Erg Chebbi dunes (250 m). From the summit of the dunes, the sunset is a spectacular sight.

Finally arriving at the campsite, you will be welcomed by mint tea and shown your private nomad tent.

At night, taste dinner under a sky full of stars, followed by a musical play with the nomads around a fire camp. Later, a comfortable nomad tent offers you night’s rest.

3rd day: Merzouga – Marrakech

If you get up early in the morning and climb to the top of the dunes,

After breakfast, you drive back to the Dra’a Valley, along the length of the Saghro Mountains. From here, you will cross the Berber villages of Alnif, Tazzarine, featured in the film ‘Babel’, and finally, N’Qob which will be the venue for lunch.

After lunch, you will visit Kasbah Tamnougalte,. This is the oldest kasbah in the Dra’a Valley and is still inhabited! From here, you drive off-road through the Dra’a Valley’s unlimited palm trees and green oases. You will continue to Ouarzazate, where we stop by the Film Studios to photograph intact film sets of many cinematic works.

In the afternoon you cross the Atlas Mountains to arrive back at Marrakech by the end of the afternoon. You have just had a wonderful desert trip from Marrakech to Merzouga.
