Erg Chegaga desert tour from Ouarzazate 4 days – itinerary:

1st day: Ouarzazate – M’hamid

Start your Ouarzazate to Erg Chigaga tour by departure in the 4×4 car from your hotel. Drive over the Anti-Atlas Mountains and via the Tizi-n-Tinfifte pass as far as Agdez.

Along the way, stop at a panoramic viewpoint for breaks and photos. Shortly after, travel off-road through the Dra’a valley’s plantation fields and along Kasbahs and oases. Next, you will visit Kasbah Tamnougalt with a local guide. Then, drive along the ancient Road of the Caravans as far as Zagora. This is the last town before the desert and the venue for lunch.

In the afternoon, your Ouarzazate desert tour continues to M’hamid. This is the end of the paved road and the beginning of the Sahara Desert.

Here, an hour to an hour and a half camel ride leads to the dunes of Erg Lihoudi. Enjoy an unforgettable sunset from the summit of the dunes and then arrive at the desert camp.

At night, taste dinner under the Saharan sky in a magical atmosphere. In the evening, enjoy a musical play by the nomads. Spend the night in a comfortable nomad tent among the dunes.

2nd day: M’hamid – Erg Chegaga Dunes

After breakfast, an hour to an hour and a half camel ride takes you to M’hamid. Here, you can learn about the nomadic life of the locals. It is possible to visit one of the surrounding villages.

After lunch, you will drive to the Erg Chegaga desert. Experience a 65km 4×4 off-track through the varying landscapes of the Sahara Desert.

At the campsite in Erg Chagaga, you will be welcomed by traditional tea and Moroccan biscuits. Then a camel trek leads to the summit of the dunes(300m), from which the sunset is breathtaking.

At night, dinner is served under a sky full of stars, followed by nomad music and drumming. Overnight in your comfortable nomad tent near the big dunes.

3rd day: Erg Chegaga Dunes – Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou

Get up early in the morning and ascend the summit of the dunes. You will be rewarded with an amazing spectacle of the sunrise and peaceful moments of the Sahara.

After breakfast, our desert tour continues with another 100km of off-road driving through the Sahara Desert with varying landscapes; dunes, flat rocky desert, and Iriqui lake where you can hunt for fossils.

Lunch is served in Foum Zguid, the first village after the desert. Back on the paved road, the journey continues roads via Taznakht, famous for its Berber carpets and rugs.

Driving further southeast, we arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage Site and Hollywood favourite film location in Morocco, Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou.

You will visit the Kasbah with a local guide. He will inform you about the history of this site and the movies that were filmed here.

You will spend the night in an authentic guest house overlooking the kasbah.

4th day: Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Gorges – Ouarzazate

Morning departure from the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou to the Dades Gorges. The first destination of today will be Skoura Oasis. Here, you will explore the green palm fields and visit the beautifully restored Kasbah Amredhil. Afterwards, travel off-road via the Road of a Thousand Kasbah. Some are sadly in ruins but ideally standing amongst the palm trees.

Back at the main road, enjoy a wonderful drive along the Valley of the Roses. Then, you will stop to have tea with a Berber family and visit the local cosmetic co-operatives.

Your adventure continues along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs as far as the Dades Valley. Here, you will explore the valley and have lunch in one of the restaurants overlooking the valley. Arrive at Ouarzazate by the end of the afternoon. This will mark the end of your Ouarzazate to Erg Chigaga tour!
